String Ensemble

Your Young Musician Is Ready to Play With Others

There's a moment every young string player waits for. It's the moment their part locks in with everyone else's, the sound gets bigger than anything they could make alone, and they look up grinning because they felt it happen.

That's what this ensemble is built for.

Our String Ensemble brings violin, viola, and cello players together every Thursday to learn what it really means to play as a group. They read together, they listen to each other, they count each other in, and they build the kind of musical instincts you just can't get from playing alone.

Who's It For

This group is a great fit for students who:

  • Are ages 9 to 13

  • Play violin, viola, or cello

  • Have one to four years of playing experience

  • Are already taking private lessons, playing in a school orchestra, or both!

What They'll Play

A mix of classical repertoire and popular music, so students get the discipline of great written music alongside the pure fun of playing songs they already love. Expect Bach one week and something off their playlist the next.

Along the way they'll build the skills that make ensemble players great: blending tone, listening for cues, and keeping time as a section.

Meet Your Teacher, Matthew Cox

Matthew Cox holds a Bachelor of Musical Arts in Viola Performance from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied under Professor George Taylor, and he's also trained with Basil Vendryes, Principal Violist of the Colorado Symphony. He performs across Colorado as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player, and he leads groups across strings, piano, and voice.

His students get real technical expertise paired with warmth, humor, and a deep belief that music helps people feel more like themselves.
